The Dirt is a 2019 American biographical comedy-drama film directed by Jeff Tremaine from a screenplay by Rich Wilkes and Amanda Adelson. It is about in my opinion one of the best and most bada** rock bands of all time, Mötley Crüe. For a little background, Mötley Crüe was formed in 1981, it consisted of Nikki Sixx the bassist and the rebellious child of the group. Nikki had a hard time growing up, this caused him to act up and be as crazy/rebellious as he could. Next up the electric guitarist, the old man of the group Mick Mars. Mick was always the most laid back of the group, he mostly stayed away from the drugs and made sure the group didn’t die. The man behind the drums is Tommy Lee. Unlike Nikki, Lee who had a good home life, he just loved rock and roll. Finally, the final member added to the group, Vince Neil, the vocals. This is Mötley Crüe and when these guys came together the music world was put into shock.
The film starts off showing the background of the lives of all the guys apart from the group. As I said before it introduces our characters, the crazy backgrounds of some, and the calm happy upbringing of others. It moves onto how the group gained its publicity and how they became the model for what a Rockstar is. When the word rock is brought up, Mötley Crüe is brought up, they were crazy. Drugs, Alcohol and crazy parties is what these guys' lives consisted of. On tour, doing whatever they wanted whenever they wanted. When these scenes occur we see the personalities of the group, the three younger guys having fun and being idiots, while old man Mick was just there relaxing. Or even sometimes the victim of the crazy pranks and stunts they pulled. There is a major event that changes the whole mood of the film, along with that event we also see a scene of Nikki shooting up heroin and overdosing. This brings us back to reality a little bit. The constant partying and rocking, is cut off by this major event. This helps the viewers come back down to earth, and think about what these guys are really doing.
