Nothing matters. This is the main message the film is trying to present to its viewers. It tries to bring the culture of being relaxed and not to take everything to heart, to the big screen. This is the vibe of today's world, “just don't worry about it, it'll be fine”. It does a really good job of working in today's society, along with showing the daughter having a girlfriend. This is also a common thing in today's world, as it shows different characters' hostile or relaxed views towards the matter. This lets us see how older generations come around to the ideas and beliefs that are not common to them.
The cinematic aspect of it is pretty strong, many different shots and angles help the story move. The fight scenes shown are amazing in my opinion, the quick cuts and switching between multiverses is demonstrated well using camera shots and cuts. There are a lot of wide shots when we switch universes, this way we know where we are at and what powers she will receive. The editing on this movie was very good due to the continuity issues they faced, a lot of switching to different universes, meaning more transitions. This calls for more continuity in between shots so the story makes sense.
The story is where the film lost me. After some research I found out that “that the joy in life is to be found in the people in it, and so the solution is to be present every moment possible.” is the message. Now this is a good message in the film which ties the story together and makes sense in the end. But the story in my opinion was childish and unprofessional. There were many childish scenes with stupid humor that took away from the seriousness of the story and the film. I get that the film is supposed to have humor and be funny, but it honestly made the film awful in terms of the story. It was also really messy with all the multiverse switching, and there were some gaps/plot holes that made it hard to follow. The film seemed to try and be serious and give off a good message, but the childish humor gets in the way of the actual film and ruins it. I had the same problem with the Daniels film, Swiss Army man. Dumb humor ruins their films, and that style makes me lose respect for the film maker and their films. The movie's story had potential to be good, but it was too messy and dumb to be seen as something we'll respect in terms of filmmaking.
